When you choose File > New to create a new document in Fireworks, a Portable Network Graphic, or PNG, is the type of document you create. PNG is the native file format for Fireworks. After you create Web graphics in Fireworks, you can export them as other familiar Web graphic formats, such as JPEG, GIF, and animated GIF. When you export a graphic in another file format, the original Fireworks PNG file remains unchanged, so you can use it again and again.
While your PNG document is open, you can zoom in and zoom out on graphics. You can change the size and resolution of the document. You can also rotate the canvas to right an upside-down or sideways imported image. Switching the Gamma view shows you what your graphic would look like on either Macintosh or Windows monitors.
You can import Photoshop, FreeHand, Illustrator, uncompressed CorelDRAW, and animated GIF files. In addition, you can import images from a digital camera or scanner. Regardless of the imported image format, you can export them as other file formats.
